The number of permanent health insurance policies in force per 100,000 population, based on mid-year estimate of population. Number of permanent health insurance policies in force includes both individual and group policies.

All figures are collected from Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and the Registrar of Occupational Retirement Schemes Hong Kong since 1993.
Figures for years before 1993 are not available. All figures refer to the position as at end of year. Figure for 1993 is used as a proxy for 1991.
Note that the remarkable drop between 1991 and 1996 of the number of policies in force is due to, as explained in the source, the fact that one insurer adjusted the figures for the years of 1995 and onwards.
