Number of international social agreements applied to Hong Kong
The number of multilateral treaties applied to Hong Kong as at end of year. All these treaties are grouped into several categories, which include political, diplomatic and defense (in which one treaty began to be applied to Hong Kong in 1997 but not yet in force in 1997), drugs, international crime, private international law, customs, marine pollution, science and technology, civil aviation, merchant shipping, investment and trade, health, intellectual property, conversation, postal, international labour conventions, human rights (in which the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, 16.12.1966 and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, 16.12.1966 are applicable to Hong Kong pursuant to the Joint Declaration of Art. 39 of the Basic Law), conventions establishing international organizations (in which the year when the Agreement for the Establishment of a Regional Animal Production and Health Commission for Asia, the Far East and the South-west Pacific began to be applied to Hong Kong was unknown), transport, and telecommunications. Quite many of these treaties that apply to Hong Kong do not apply to the Mainland.
