All figures are collected from Census and Statistics Department since 1991.
The original sources of data are table A 12 of the Main Tables of Hong Kong 1991 Population Census and A11 of the Main Tables of Hong Kong 1996 Population By-census. All figures are obtained by adding those whose usual language is either Cantonese or other Chinese dialects use English, Filipino, Japanese and other languages than other Chinese dialects as their second language and those whose usual language is either English, Filipino, Japanese and other languages use any other languages or dialect than their own usual language as their second language.
